Syl's Blog

Back, I Think

It hasn't quite been a full month and I'm already missing it here, which I think is a good sign.

I've come to the conclusion that I really like treating this blog as a personal journal, and that's okay. I'm a remnant of the old days of blogging, when it was more journal entries and less essays, and it's hard for me to get away from that, even now.

I still want to write thoughtful pieces as well, but I don't think that has to be my focus. I can use this space to simply chronicle my life and have something to look back on, and that can be thoughtful in its own way. I think it's worthwhile to be able to revisit old posts and reminisce and see how things have changed or stayed the same. I've mentioned before that I think of this blog as like my teenage bedroom that I spent so much time decorating and personalizing. I've done that here, and it has become a space where I can very much just be comfortable and be myself. I think I kinda need that.

That being said, I'm turning off the "toasts" function for now. The most popular post I've ever written here was about turning that functionality on, but after taking some time to reflect, I've realized that it feels too much like social media for my comfort. I'd rather people engage with my posts through comments, which I've enabled both by email and on the post itself with Komments, a feature I'm bringing back.

Overall, though, my short hiatus simply reminded me how much I love it here, which I think is the best outcome!

I'm going to casually keep posting my Week Notes over at Syl @ Weblog because I like having those separate from my main blog.

This will be a rare double-post day as well, as I'd like to share my thoughts on a demo for an upcoming game that I recently played. So keep an eye out for that coming up very soon!
