Freewheeling
We're only on the 5th day of Blaugust and I'm already struggling to think of something to write about. I went through the list of prompts and nothing is standing out there either. I think I'll just do a little freewriting (freewheeling?) today and see how it goes.
Let's start with some music I've been loving lately:
- The album Come Closer by Tomora - a trip-hop collaboration between Aurora and Tom Rowlands of the Chemical Brothers. I always love seeing new trip-hop releases because it's a bit of a rare genre nowadays, but it's one of my favorites.
- Tarja's new album, Frisson Noir, might end up being my album of the year. I can't get enough of it. My favorite songs are "The Trace Outlives," "Tango," and "Against the Odds."
- Chelsea Wolfe has released three new singles that I've had on repeat: "Cold," "Death Is Not the End," and "The Dark."
- The Hades soundtrack by Darren Korb - I recently went on a Hades binge and I'm still listening to the music from it. Favorite songs are "Scourge of the Furies," "Last Words," "Lament of Orpheus (Underworld Mix)" and "In the Blood (feat. Ashley Barrett)"
We made an appointment for Ranni to get spayed, coming up on the 18th. Maybe we should have had it done earlier, but it was recommended that we wait longer since she's a larger breed, and we haven't seen any signs of her going into heat yet, although they could be mostly hidden. I think she's maturing rather slowly.
I'm nervous about the idea of her having surgery of any kind, but spaying can help prevent future health problems, so I'm glad we're getting it out of the way. I'm kind of hoping the 18th arrives quickly and we can get it over with and start the recovery process. She's my little girl, and I just want to take care of her and make sure she's as happy, healthy, and comfortable as possible.
I got a new crockpot a couple of weeks ago at a thrift store, and today I put it to use for the first time. I tossed in four chicken breasts with two cans of cream of chicken & mushroom soup, a packet of onion soup, and 1/2 cup of water, then let it cook on high for four hours. I made seasoned steamed broccoli and spinach as sides. It was a tasty lunch, and I'm happy to report that the crockpot works beautifully!
As far as games go, I'm currently playing through the remake of Alone in the Dark that came out a couple of years ago. It's poorly optimized for PC, so I had to spend some time adjusting the settings to get it to stop stuttering a bunch, but aside from that I'm loving it. I really feels like I've stepped into the 1930s, and I think it does some interesting things with Chthulian horror.
I'm also playing through Ocarina of Time 3D on the 3DS with Joel -- we're doing a play-along! I'm currently catching up to him, but I've just acquired the Goron's Ruby and am on my way to Zora's Domain, where he is. I have to say, I don't want another Ocarina of Time remake, especially after playing this again. It's such a great game that still holds up so well. I wish they would just port it to Switch and let people access it more easily and experience it as is, because it's pretty perfect.
Our cabin vacation is getting closer! I can't wait to spend a few worry-free days with Danny and Ranni, surrounded by nature. 💚
