Getting Back to Video Games

Due to my wrist injury, I wasn't able to fully enjoy my favorite hobby for over a month, so I missed out on some of the video games I'd wanted to play. Silent Hill f was a big one. I'd planned on playing it on release, but instead I watched CJUGames play through it and then watched some lore videos about it. I was still able to enjoy it that way, but I do want to play it myself at some point as well.

I still don't have full movement in my left wrist and hand, but I'm finally able to hold a controller again and play some of the games that I put on hold after my injury. I recently played four games that have all quickly become entries on my favorites list.

Clock Tower: Rewind

I'd wanted to play this since it was released almost exactly a year ago but never got around to it, so I picked it up during Steam's Halloween sale. I'm really glad I finally got to experience this horror classic in what I believe is now the definitive way to play it. It still plays very much like a game released in 1995, which I think is great, but has a few added features that enhance the experience, like increased random encounters with Scissorman. I had a great time with this giallo-inspired game and its extras.

Strange Antiquities

I was a big fan of Strange Horticulture, so I've had my eye on its sequel since it was announced, and I was excited to finally play it. It did not disappoint. In fact, it took everything from Strange Horticulture and improved on it. I loved the ability to use maps to travel to different places. The puzzles are challenging enough without being frustrating, and I enjoyed being in the world of Undermere so much that I kept playing until I got all the achievements.

Easy Delivery Co.

The low-poly look of this indie game appealed to me, and it turned out to be right up my alley. It masquerades as a delivery game where you drive a kei truck through snowy terrain, but there's an unsettling story lurking beneath it. I enjoyed the relaxing gameplay loop and had a great time unraveling the truth behind the strange behavior of the shopkeepers and the fact that I was the only one on the roads.

Pokémon Legends: Z-A

I'm actually not quite finished with this one yet, but I'm right at the end and I feel that I've played enough to make a solid assessment. I never played Arceus, but I did play Scarlet, and I like Z-A more than it. I love the new active combat system, and I absolutely adore the setting. Exploring the city of Lumiose is so much fun, and it feels huge and vibrant. The story and characters are great as well. I've been playing on the original Switch and haven't had any major performance issues. A few framerate drops, but nothing as egregious as Scarlet, honestly.

Next, I plan on playing some point-and-click adventures that I missed, including The Last Door and Old Skies!
