Hidden Gems on Bandcamp
I discover and purchase a lot of music through Bandcamp, and I thought it'd be fun to share some of my favorite lesser-known discoveries. My criteria here is that they have less than 100 purchases. Please give them a listen if you're interested! There's a Bandcamp Friday coming up on September 5th, and if you purchase music on that day, 100% of the funds go to the artists.
House of Grief by Cammie Beverly
Cammie Beverly is the vocalist for one of my favorite metal bands, Oceans of Slumber. I was fortunate enough to see them live last year, and Cammie has one of the most powerful voices in the genre. Her solo album leans more toward atmospheric trip-hop that showcases her expressive vocals. This is easily in my top five albums of the year.
Matilda MÃ¥rd creates some of the most ethereal dreampop I've ever heard. I wish her project was more well-known because it deserves to be appreciated. Gestures is a beautiful album and a great mellow listen for the upcoming autumn season.
Universe for Sale soundtrack by Guglielmo Diana
This game and its soundtrack both deserve more love. The game is beautifully illustrated and has one of the most interesting stories I've ever experienced. It's weird sci-fi at its best. The soundtrack is a lovely collection of ambient tracks that fit the world of the game perfectly but are also suitable for just chilling to.
MorMor is a Canadian artist who creates really lovely and emotional dreampop. I discovered Heaven's Only Wishful a few years ago and fell in love with the mellow beat and the slight horror vibes of the title track. He's one of my favorite artists right now, and he deserves all the attention. He recently released a single with Danger Mouse called "Wonder", which is not on Bandcamp yet, but you can find it on YouTube.
Janice has created these beautiful soundscapes using samples she recorded from her daily life, like a hinoki bucket and summer cicadas. The result is an absolutely mesmerizing audio journey. Every track is so different and yet it feels like a cohesive experience, like exploring a very specific time and place of her own creation that's influenced by everyday life.
