Syl's Blog

A while ago, I came across a Bear Blog Carnival topic from Absurd Pirate called "What's in My Inventory?" I thought it would make a great slash page, so I've had it on my to-do list. Well, now I'm finally getting around to it!

This is basically what I carry on a daily or near-daily basis. Each item comes with a regular description and a more creative description in italics that mimics video game inventory items -- in other words, the descriptions you'd find if you looted my body in a game. Kinda morbid, but also fun!

Main Inventory

my backpack with its contents out and arranged neatly
  1. Backpack: I have no idea what brand this backpack is or anything like that. There are no labels on it, and I can't remember where I got it. All I know is that I like the color and it suits my purposes!

A tan rucksack covered in keychains. It increases your inventory size by 3. See keychain descriptions for effects.

  1. Keys: My key ring holds my car keys (to a 2005 Scion XA I've affectionately dubbed Bernie), my apartment keys, keys to my parents' house and my sister's house, grocery store discount cards, a Twin Peaks hotel keychain, and a four-leaf clover keychain that you unfortunately can't really see in the picture.

A silver key ring. Wonder what these keys open? Luck +10

  1. Wallet: I love my bee-themed wallet! I believe I got this at Walmart. Inside are normal wallet things -- lots of cards, my driver's license, and sometimes cash. My favorite thing in there is, of course, my library card.

A chic botanical wallet. Inside you find some gold and a card for the nearby library. Gold +100, Intellect +10

  1. Coffee & Reading Time notebook: I got this little notebook from Bungu to record the books I read this year and I love it! As a bonus, you can record the coffees you drink!

A small brown notebook filled with scribbles about books and coffee. This is useless to you, but it seems to have held value for someone.

  1. Daily Planner: A planner I picked up at the dollar store next to our apartment. I like the way the pages are laid out. Right now, I'm mostly using it as a meal planner.

A notebook filled with food-related scribblings. +New recipes added!

  1. Jetstream Lite Touch Ink Pen: I also got this pen from Bungu. It writes so smoothly!

A smoky blue ink pen. When you write with this, it shrouds you in a thick mist, hiding you from prying eyes.

  1. My Melody makeup bag: I got this wristlet from the Sanrio website. My Melody is one of my favorite Sanrio characters, along with Kuromi and Cinnamoroll. 🩷

A cute bag featuring a cartoon bunny. +1 inventory space

  1. Cosmetics: LYS Triple Fix concealer, two lip glosses from e.l.f., and a My Melody compact mirror.

Sparkly pink cosmetics that are sure to light up a room. Charisma +4

  1. PUP Annihilation Preparedness Bandages: I got these as part of a promotion for the band PUP, whose music I like, and it's always good to have Band-Aids on hand.

Plasters that stop bleeding in addition to healing a small amount of health.

  1. McDonald's magnifying glass: I've had this since I was a kid. It was part of a set of Happy Meal toys in 1991 that were themed around an Indiana Jones-style "Mystery of the Lost Arches" ad campaign. It's a small magnifying glass that slides out of a plastic case that looks like a cassette player. It's not a great magnifying glass and I never use it. I just keep it in my bag for nostalgia's sake.

*Quest item* You've found one of the pieces of spy equipment needed for the Mystery of the Lost Arches quest! This magnifying lens, hidden in a cassette player, allows you to see far into the distance. Perception +12

  1. Fidget toy: An atomic fidget ball that I enjoy playing with.

A strange contraption consisting of interconnected spheres in four different colors. If arranged properly, it may allow you to open doors previously unseen.

Keychain Closeups

  1. A Sanrio Jewelpet keychain that looks like a CD jewel case. You can even open it up to find a tiny CD inside! (Agility +2, Perception -1) The other keychain is the Sanrio character Hanamaruobake as an ice cream cup. (Charisma +5, Health -1)

  2. My Kirby and Shark Week '97 keychains, both rubber. The Kirby keychain has a little lanyard attached and is strawberry-themed. I got it for free from Nintendo Rewards and I love it so much! I can't remember where I got the Shark Week keychain, but I adore it too. (Health +3 and Strength +2, respectively)

  3. The logo for Spiritbox, one of my favorite bands. 🤘 (Intellect +1, Perception +2)

Side Inventory

This is the stuff that I don't always carry with me but is still an important part of my everyday life.

My laptop covered in stickers, Discman, and digicam
  1. Laptop: My pride and joy, covered in various stickers. It's an Alienware m17 R5 gaming laptop, and it's a few years old at this point but still suits me well. It's my primary gaming machine and also where I update this site.

A bulky black portable machine covered in decorative stickers. You can use this to research various places, objects, and creatures you come across on your quest. +1000 damage to fascists

  1. CD player and headphones: My original portable CD player that I've had since I was a kid. It's a Magnavox 100 ESP Jogproof that plays MP3s and also has an FM radio tuner. This is primarily how I listen to CDs, aside from in the car. The headphones are from Retrospekt. I had an old pair similar to these that Danny unfortunately sat on and broke, so I had to replace them.

A music device suitable for traveling long distances. Speed +5, Agility +3, Perception -2

  1. Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS3 Digital Camera: Even though it's only 10 megapixels and I'm nowhere near a photographer, I love shooting with this thing. The tactile experience of digicams is so satisfying.

A picture-taking device that allows you to fast-travel to major hub areas after you've snapped a picture of them.
