Ranni Turned One Year Old!

This is a picture-heavy post!

Our little lunar pup, Ranni, turned one year old on September 4th. We adopted her in November of last year, so we've had her for about 10 months, and she has been a shining light in our lives ever since.

I'll never forget when I first saw her. Danny got her from a friend at work whose dogs had a litter of pups. Her dad is a German Shepherd and Labrador Retriever mix, and her mom is a German Shepherd and Australian Shepherd mix. Danny brought her home, and I was heading home in my car to meet her. When I got there, he was holding her in his arms, and she was so tiny! I couldn't believe how small and adorable she was, with these soulful brown eyes. I fell in love with her right away.

We named her Ranni, after the lunar princess character in the game Elden Ring. Elden Ring was the first thing Danny and I ever talked about together, and it's a mutual favorite, so it was a no-brainer to name her something related to it. That's why we call her the lunar pup!

It amazed me how quickly she grew over the next few months, and we could see that she was developing a distinct personality. She's super athletic and can do the agility course at the nearby dog park without any trouble. Her absolute favorite thing in the world is playing fetch with a ball. As soon as she sees us get a tennis ball out, her eyes light up. She's kind of antisocial when it comes to other dogs, but she tolerates them, and she doesn't have an aggressive bone in her body. She loves humans, though, and absolutely adores being pet and cuddled.

She's very vocal and will bark, whine, and grunt when she wants something. We've worked on a few tricks with her and are trying to teach her more. She can be stubborn at times, but we're working on her listening skills as well. Ultimately, though, she's been a perfect addition to our little family and we couldn't be happier. Danny and I plan to remain child-free, so Ranni is basically like our kid. Our lives revolve around her.

For her birthday, I baked a dog-friendly cake using peanut butter, unsweetened applesauce, an egg, and a bit of baking powder. It turned out super soft and broke apart when I took it out of the pan, but she didn't care how it looked and she devoured the whole thing. We bought her favorite treats as well, and we spent the day cuddling with her and lavishing her with attention.

I commissioned my Instagram friend, Jenny of Crafty Goblin Co., to create a portrait of Ranni, and I'm over the moon with how it turned out! We're working on getting it printed and framed, but I wanted to show it off here. I think she captured Ranni perfectly, especially her eyes. Please consider following and supporting Jenny as well because she's a fantastic artist and lovely person!
